WHAT ARE HYALURONIC ACID SKIN FILLERS?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a part of our skin collagen but is also found in joints, they eye, and other parts fo our body. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane or similar contain parts of a synthetic form of Hyaluronic Acid.

Once injected the substance integrates into our tissue and even stimulates the production of our natural collagen. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based dermal fillers such as Juvederm® are non-permanent skin fillers and fully dissolvable if necessary.

HOW IS IT DONE?
The HA Filler is injected through either needle or a canula. The Canula is a blunt, flexible little probe which can reach pretty much the whole treatment area through only one needle size access point. This way trauma, bruising, pain is minimal. Most of all, the canula is seen to be much safer than injecting through needle.

Following the treatment massaging of the area is no longer as important as it was after needle injection. Once in the deeper skin layer, the HA Filler is absorbing even into the more superficial skin layers. This way even acne scarring or very superficial skin problems can be treated through layering a thin

My personal favorite is the HAIRLINE LIFT. This procedure is my take on the traditional 8 point lift. The product is injected in a smooth, upward motion towards and behind the hairline. The treatment creates a beautiful lifting effect.

I have injected dermal fillers for over 20 years. Experience is the key in treating patients successfully and safely. This is what I learned from injecting over 100.000 syringes:

  1. Downtime is an exception, the patients should definitely be able to leave the office looking immediately refreshed, younger, healthier, better and restored.
  2. Fillers, like Botox, benefit from repeated treatments. There is no need to try and do it all at once. The result of the treatment improves over time and less product can achieve a healthier and better effect this way.
  3. Anaesthetic crème is not necessary. When we treat lips we numb the area with a bit of Lignocaine.
  4. Bruising is possible but really rare. If the bruise exceeds the size of a 20 Pence piece we deem that to be exceptional.
  5. Age does not matter, older patients just need a bit longer and a bit more treatment sometimes to see the age reversal process unfold.

AGEING OF THE FACE
Loss of volume, facial asymmetry, acne or accidental scarring, or even just the effects of aging can be treated with dermal fillers

As we age we lose collagen, subcutaneous volume, bone mass and muscle. Even though synthetic, HA Fillers can integrate and absorbe easily into the tissue. HA can therefore prevent further loss of volume and skin elasticity. Even skin texture and skin pore size improves as a result. Acne Scars, enlarged skin pores, pitting, uneven texture tend to become more visible as we age. In areas where HA has been injected the superficial skin layers tend to improve visible even within a couple of weeks.

(All of our patients are imaged via detailed skin analysis and before and after treatment outcomes can be analysed)

Loss of skin collagen through UV, Pollution, Smoking, Age, causes skin collagen to change. Fillers can hydrate the skin whilest reducing the appearance of lines on the face, decollete and hands through rebuilding skin collagen. For patients who suffer from dry, chapped lips HA fillers can provide hydration and softening of the skin/mucosa.

HA based dermal fillers if injected properly can postpone facial surgery according to a study by the London based plastic surgeon Rajiv Grover.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?
HA fillers provide an aesthetic effect for an average of at least 6-12 months, in some cases up to 2 years. During the consultation we often make use of 3D imagery to document the treatment results. How much product we need in order to get to the desired results is sometimes difficult to anticipate.

Some practitioners like to inject large volumes in one session. Out of years of experience we can say that it is far better to layer and slowly built up the missing volume, therefore greatly reducing the side effects and risks that go in hand with a one-off volumizing treatment. As the products are very durable, also as a result of the skin’s own collagen production following the treatment. This makes the results of a dermal filler treatment long lasting and very natural.

PROCEDURE AND AFTERCARE?
There might be some reddening of the skin post treatment, there will be some swelling, depending on how much has been injected and the area will feel sometimes tender post procedure for a couple of days. Patients are virtually immediately presentable. 24 out of 25 patients would leave our office able to go straight home or back to work. It is possible to apply make up after 30 minutes. Keep the area clean! That means don’t snog your dog, cat, horse, any other pet.
