The Benefits of Radio Frequency
Unlike chemical peels, dermabrasion or laser skin resurfacing there is no or very little downtime with Radio Frequency Skin Resurfacing. The treatment is also COLOURBLIND, that means skin of colour can be treated safely as well for any of the above conditions.
Radio Frequency can be used for skin resurfacing treatments and for skin tightening. One of the main benefits of radiofrequency is that it can be used to treat skin anywhere on the body. Radio Frequency skin tightening treatments can be used to tackle a number of frustrating skin problems for example reducing the appearance of stretch marks, lose skin and sagging skin. Results continue to improve up to six months as new collagen develops.
How is it done?
The treatment takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated. During the course of the treatment you will experience brief, deep heat sensation. Depending on the intensity, treatments may have no or some downtime. There are several treatment options:
- The treatment can be performed with no or very little downtime and more frequently, for instance twice per week over 4 weeks.
- We call this LEGACY
A more abrasive and intensive treatment would require a downtime of 3-7 days, the skin will be red and at times blotchy but cover up with make-up is possible from day 2.
- This treatment would be done in 1-3 Monthly intervals, depending on the condition we are treating. We call this treatment VIVA.
A combination treatment of the above 2 different kinds of Radio Frequency plus an add on of a mild IPL (Intense Pulsed Light for pigmentation and small blood vessels) works very well in conjunction and we offer this as a 3 course treatment. This is called TRIBELLA.
Medical Skin Resurfacing
The medical indication for skin resurfacing can vary from treating the appearance of acne scars, acute acne and inflammation, dermatitis and skin conditions, rosacea, hyper-pigmentation, melasma, skin congestion leading to inflammation, adult acne, juvenile acne, hormonal skin conditions and so forth.
Generally speaking most of the skin resurfacing treatments are based on causing a degree of superficial to deeper skin injury. The healing response associated and following the surface injury is aimed at reversing, restoring and maintaining the skin’s health. Improvements to the underlying conditions depends on the severity, intensity, frequency of the treatment and overall health of the skin.
The treatment options for skin resurfacing can vary from Laser (thermal/light/burn), to peeling (chemical burns), skin needling/derma rolling (micro needle injury), to Radio frequency (microwave heat treatment) to mechanical dermabrasion (scraping). All of the above can cause some form of skin injury including changes to pigment cell structures and stimulates collagen production and remodelling of skin collagen.
The treatment options we offer range from Radio Frequency, IPL to skin needling, mild peelings, hydra dermabrasion. We tend to repeat the process and treat over a course of sessions and combine several different options in order minimise downtime, discomfort and potential side effects. The treatment will also be supported by the use of topical skin preparations depending on the underlying issue.
